Works made for Craft + Design Canberra Annual Daily Creative Challenge 'Rewilding' during July 2025
I am so thrilled to be awarded second prize in this year's Challenge. My sincere thanks go to Craft+DesignACT and the Canberra community who have made this challenge possible.
Of the thirty one images, one for each day of the month (there were 32 pieces woven but not all used for the challenge) I submitted twenty eight woven pieces along with two photos and a video. To keep my creativity flowing I designed different weave drafts each day and sometimes entirely re-threaded the two separate looms I was using. Using two looms allowed creativity and flow as I had two warps to choose from each day, but also provided me with parameters that kept me from going down the rabbit hole of playing with never-ending drafts.
My self-imposed brief was to use materials from my existing stash, remain within a green/black/purple colour palette and use a maximum of eight shafts. For the weave nerds, I used the following structures: plain, twill, taquete, distorted weft, overshot, crackle, honeycomb, supplementary weft, double corduroy, double weave, waffle, and twining, in conjunction with using a wavy shuttle and removing the reed on one or two occasions. Materials were cottolin, wool, silk, synthetic and lomandra leaves.
